Who we are
Tattooed Denim began back in the summer of 2022 as a small depop business for upcycled clothing. I bought jeans from my local thrift store, and would project an image onto them and give them some extra pizzazz with some fabric markers and bleach. This is actually where the name Tattooed Denim comes from, because when I was adding a permanent design onto the jeans it was like I was giving them a tattoo! Getting to be creative with the kind of design I would choose for a specific piece was super fun, but the bleach fumes weren’t super great for the good ole respiratory system, so I opened my options up to other forms of clothing customizing. I eventually ventured into the beautiful land of yarn embroidery, and fell in love with creating designs that had a 3D feel to them. I would spend between a day to a week hand-stitching a single design, sticking myself more than I could count in the process, and while the result was always rewarding, I wanted a way to add designs to clothing that was a little less time-consuming (and a lil less painful because ouchieeee my pinkie!) and lucky enough, there was something that could do just that!
I bought my first embroidery machine that December, and immediately fell in love. I started creating silly, cute, and colorful designs with all of the new threads, and moved over to Etsy to begin embroidering on T-Shirts and Sweatshirts. I had some success with this, and even had to purchase another embroidery machine to keep up with the amount of orders coming in. I was so ecstatic that my designs were not only being worn by people all around the world, but that it was bringing them joy and spreading it to others.
As of lately, I’ve been practicing making Tattooed Denim into the brand I had always envisioned it to be. A 60s psychedelic paradise bursting with color, silly-looking characters and oddly shaped shapes, carefree captions and stupid sayings, all of it sounded good to me! Moving forward, I hope for Tattooed Denim to grow in the way life often seems to play out; as a surprise! Never knowing what’s next is pretty scary, but there's some hope in that, and that’s what drives me. I hope to continue surprising myself on this journey and maybe others if I’m lucky enough to, but most of all, I hope Tattooed Denim can bring joy to other people, which is the true essence of what this brand has become. To continue pushing, there's a lesson that Tattooed Denim has taught me, that I’m definitely still working on applying: life is too short to take things too seriously, so loosen up a bit, and have a good time! Can’t wait to continue sharing this journey with you all as we all grow together!
Thanks for reading!
Much Love,
Christopher from Tattooed Denim
